Moving Out or Selling?

Obtaining a Final Reading Statement is the most accurate way to pay your final utility bill. It protects all parties involved from erroneous estimations/prorations. This allows the occupants who are leaving to pay the portion of water/sewer charges for which they are responsible.

If you are moving out or selling your property, you may request a final billing statement from the utility account for a $50.00 charge. The water utility can obtain final meter readings for an additional $50.00, and we may need access to the basement. This fee is waived if the property owner, tenant, or agent provides the final meter readings.

Approximately 1500 properties have an older style register known as Read-O-Matic (ROM) device mounted on the outside wall of the property that is wired to the meter in the basement. Properties with ROM devices will require two readings, one from the ROM outside, and one from the water meter inside. Even if a final statement is not requested, both readings should be provided to the utility so that any necessary billing adjustments can be made. If you are not sure which type of meter you have, please contact the utility.

Request a final billing statement online at Final Bill. Charges apply.

Contact the Water Utility Billing office by email at ubilling@westalliswi.gov or by phone at 414-302-8245 Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for more information.

How to Pro-Rate a Utility Bill

  1. Locate the billing period on the most recent bill.

  2. Calculate the number of days the tenant/seller is responsible for after the last billing period.

  3. Locate Total Current Charges on the utility bill.

  4. Divide the Total Current Charges by 90 then multiply the result by the number of days you calculated in Step 2.

  5. The result is the amount the tenant/seller owes for the next billing period that has not been billed yet.
