West Allis is a leader in redeveloping abandoned and underutilized property. After transforming sites through environmental remediation, adding utilities, and more, West Allis markets properties and acts as the "listing broker." Selling brokers are invited to register prospects under one-party listing arrangements with the City.

Most redevelopment properties are in Tax Incremental Financing Districts. In these districts, most of the City's development costs are recovered through the property taxes generated by new development. Prospective buyers are asked to submit preliminary plans with their purchase offers so that staff can calculate the taxable value of the proposed development.
