It's the time of year when leaves are starting to fall and the crisp weather is around the corner. Below, you'll find updates from the Department of Public Works about the drop off sites, leaf and yard waste collection and brush collection for the fall season.

  1. The Morgan Avenue drop-off site will close for the season on Friday, Sept. 27 at 2:30 p.m. It will reopen in spring on Tuesday, May 27, 2025. The Municipal Yard located at 6300 W. McGeoch Ave will remain open throughout the season as usual.

  2. Fall leaf and yard waste collection will begin on Sunday, Sept. 29 and will continue until Sunday, Nov. 17. Yard waste materials such as leaves, weeds, flowers, vines and other non-fruit or vegetable materials may be placed in the curb-line of the street during this time period.

    • Note that grass clippings are not considered yard waste and are not accepted at the drop-off sites or collected with yard waste collection. Leave grass clippings in place or consider starting a compost pile. You can also use grass clippings as mulch under trees and shrubs at home. Do not rake grass clippings into the street.

    • Residents can track the yard waste collection progress on the Leaf Relief application. The application can be used as a guide to determine when crews will be in specific neighborhoods to ensure yard waste is out prior to the collection time.

    • A list of do's and don'ts can be found online.

  3. Weekly brush collection of sticks, tree/shrub trimmings and branches ends on Friday, Oct. 4. After this date, brush can be brought to the Municipal Yard. Charges may apply.
