National Fitness Campaign Fitness Court

A new fitness opportunity for West Allis residents has come to Veterans Memorial Park at 70th Street & National Avenue. Through a partnership with Quartz Health Solutions (Quartz), Aurora Health Care, and National Fitness Campaign (NFC), an outdoor Fitness Court® was installed at the park and is now open.

In 2019, the City submitted a grant application to NFC for the construction of the Fitness Court. NFC is committed to building an outdoor Fitness Court within a 10-minute walk or bike ride of every American, and West Allis was selected to be one of those cities. As a community that places a high priority on wellness, West Allis is an ideal location for an NFC Fitness Court. 

The Fitness Courts provide free opportunities for the public to get fit and active. NFC Fitness Courts offer equipment and space to do complete circuit training, including strength training and cardio exercises, and offer a complete workout for all fitness levels based on seven key movements. NFC also offers a free app featuring instructional and workout videos with personal trainers, who lead users through a variety of workouts that build endurance, strength, and flexibility. Users of the app join a national community and can compete against local users and national leaderboards for the chance to win prizes from National Fitness Campaign. You don’t need to use the app to use the court, however; exercise routines will be displayed at the Fitness Court so anyone can make the most of the equipment.

“One of the barriers to improving fitness levels in our community is financial – in-home equipment and gym memberships are expensive, and that closes off many members of our community from being able to take control of their health,” says Mayor Dan Devine. “The Fitness Court provides a space for residents to work out at absolutely no cost, improving the overall health and well-being of our community.”

No tax dollars were used to install the Fitness Court, which was funded by NFC's Wisconsin state organizer, Quartz, Aurora West Allis Medical Center Service Club, and Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds. 

In spring 2020, the City added the finishing touches to the Fitness Court, adding a bright, energetic mural and instructional decals to help users make the most of the Fitness Court, with or without the app. In July 2023, the Fitness Court relaunched with a ribbon-cutting event.
