All properties within 150 feet of fire hydrants are responsible for clearing the hydrant per the West Allis Code of Ordinances 11.12. In an emergency, every second counts. Fire hydrants that are blocked or difficult to access due to snow and/or ice waste first responders' valuable time. Keeping them clear means easier access to water to fight emergencies.
If you have a fire hydrant within 150 feet of your property, remove ice and snow from the hydrants at least three feet around the hydrant on all sides, and clear a path from the hydrant to the street.
