Who can use the computers in the teen space?: The six computers in the teen space are for teens, ages 12-18. They are linked to a library card, so if you are younger than 12 or older than 18 it will not let you log on. If you are younger than 12, there are computers upstairs in theYouth Department, and if you are older than 18 there are computers in the Adult Department for you to use.

1. Who can use the teen space?: The Teen Space is intended for Milwaukee County teens, ages 12-18 or those students in grades 6-12. The seating and tables are reserved for the patrons in this age group. Adults and younger patrons who are working with teens in the space are welcome to stay, however adults and younger patrons not with teens may be asked to leave if teens are using the space.

2. What if I want to look for books?: Everyone is welcome to browse the teen collection of books. We just ask that those patrons over the age 18 or under the age of 12 look at the book, and take a seat somewhere else in the library. There is plenty of seating around the teen space for those who want to browse the teen book collection who are not teens.

4. Why did you make me leave the library last week?: There are certain rules we ask everyone to follow in the library, and it is no different for the teen space. There is an official policy that you can read but in simpler terms, if you are disruptive, or doing something wrong we will ask you to leave. Most of the time you will be given three warnings before we ask you to go, however sometimes we will just ask you to leave. You are always welcome to come back the next day!

5. Why are the books in the Teen Space called YA in the catalog?: In the library world, the terms “Young Adult” and “Teen” are used pretty
interchangeably. The books have always been part of Young Adult or YA at West Allis. When it came time to name the new space for those books, plus all the seating, we thought Teen Space was a good name. It’s just a matter of the library using two different names that mean the same thing.
