The Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing program is a partnership between the Department of Housing and Urban Development and the Department of Veterans Affairs. The program has been designed to get previously homeless Veterans in safe, permanent, independent housing while addressing concerns that may threaten the stability of their situation.
The program provides the following to eligible Veterans who are homeless or are at risk of homelessness:
Veterans approved to receive Section 8 rent assistance vouchers search for rental units in the community of their choice. When approved by a landlord and the local housing authority, they can enter into a 12-month lease agreement and pay approximately 30% of their income toward rent and utilities.
Long-term case management and supportive services
Case management services may include activities such as care coordination with the VA Medical Center, money management skill development, and help communicating with landlords.
