Adopt a Hydrant

Be a Hydrant Hero! City of West Allis Municipal Code requires all property owners within 150 feet of a fire hydrant to be responsible for clearing the hydrant of ice and snow in winter. You can help by volunteering to Adopt a Hydrant near you! Here's how to become a Hydrant Hero:

  1. View a map of fire hydrant locations in West Allis.
  2. Find your property and view nearby hydrants to see if they are currently adopted, or open for adoption.
  3. If your hydrant is open, write down the hydrant number.
  4. Fill out this form to officially adopt it.

That's it! Once you've adopted your hydrant, please clear it of ice and snow to a distance of three feet all around after each snow event.

You can adopt a hydrant as an individual, with your household, with your business, or with neighbors.

If you move or your contact information changes, or you are unable to continue to be responsible for your hydrant, please email us to let us know.
