M-2 Heavy Manufacturing Zoning District

The public and manufacturing operations owners in West Allis are invited to join a Virtual Informational Meeting on Thursday, Nov. 19 from  5 – 7 p.m. to learn more about an upcoming zoning map amendment process to incorporate a new heavy manufacturing zoning district on the official City of West Allis zoning map. The new district will be labeled as the M-2 heavy manufacturing district.

In 2019, the City passed a zoning ordinance text amendment to establish a light manufacturing and heavy manufacturing sub-chapter within the zoning ordinance. However, while the regulations of the ordinance currently exist, the actual placement of districts (M-2 zoning districts) have not yet been established. Therefore, all existing manufacturing lands are currently mapped as they have been since 1995 as M-1 manufacturing.

To begin the process of updating the zoning map, the City would like to share with you its recommendation to rezone certain industrial areas containing about 135 acres or 37 properties. The subject areas are currently zoned for manufacturing purposes, but recommended to be rezoned to the new M-2 heavy manufacturing district.
