Stop the Stigma
The West Allis Mental Health and Substance Abuse Task Force (WAMHSATF) was created in 2015 in response to the growing concerns related to the numerous complicated issues that affect and are affected by mental health and substance abuse in the West Allis community. Mental health and substance abuse often exist in tandem and when undiagnosed or untreated, can have a negative effect on the individual, their family, and the community at large. This multidisciplinary taskforce of community leaders and stakeholders is committed to creating awareness of these issues and then building support for the individuals and families impacted by mental health or substance abuse to seek help.
Part of this effort is the launch of the #stopthestigma campaign, a community wide awareness initiative that aims to destigmatize mental health and substance abuse disorders and encourage residents to seek information and connect with resources that can help. In cooperation with the City of West Allis Communications Department and West Allis Health Department, members of WAMHSATF will be leveraging social media, print brochures and posters, and community events to develop an open conversation about mental health and substance abuse in West Allis.
If you or a loved one is struggling with these conditions, help is available. Contact the resources below, visit 2-1-1 Impact, or call 2-1-1 for assistance.
