The City of West Allis Revised Municipal Code requires a Certificate of Business Occupancy be obtained before engaging in any business activity on any premises in the City. Business Occupancy Application is now online. Please follow the link below.
Occupancy fees are based on the size of the space being occupied and payment is accepted upon application in the form of cash/check (debit/credit cards are not accepted).
Occupancy Permit Inspection Appointments
When a completed application form is submitted with the required fees a site inspection can be scheduled. Inspection appointments are scheduled at least three (3) days out from when payment is made and are typically scheduled Monday through Friday from 9:30am - 10:30am or 10:30am - 11:30am.
Building, Electrical, Plumbing, Health, and Fire Inspectors will each review the site and area associated with the occupancy application within the one hour inspection window. Inspectors do not come together so there must be someone available to let them enter the space during the allotted one hour window.
All five (5) inspectors must approve occupancy before the final Certificate Of Occupancy will be issued.
Information provided on this site is not intended to answer all questions concerning occupancy permits. If you have any additional questions concerning this process, please contact the Code Enforcement Department.
