DPW Trench Rescue Procedure (2004)

The City of West Allis DPW developed and initiated an emergency Trench Rescue Procedure as it relates to the Department's Trenching and Excavation Policy. The procedure was implemented to provide guidance to employees if and when a trench or excavation cave-in/collapse would occur. It was also developed to provide education and a level of understanding regarding the process of handling a trench cave-in/collapse emergency between DPW and Fire Department personnel. Hands-on scenario based rescue training was also developed as part of the procedure so that rescue techniques, practices and protocols could be practiced with all DPW employees and the responding Police and Fire personnel.
