Press Release: West Allis Receives High Praise in State Plumbing Code Enforcement Audit

Press Release Image
West Allis, WI - July 12, 2017 - The West Allis Building Inspection and Neighborhood Services (BINS) Department received high praise following an audit of its Plumbing Code Enforcement Program by the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS).

The City of West Allis is a certified second class city for plumbing plan review and inspection and may perform plumbing plan review and inspections of projects of all sizes, with a few exceptions found in the state plumbing code. West Allis and Milwaukee are the only municipalities in southeast Wisconsin authorized to provide this service. The audit, conducted in March 2017, evaluated five plans for accuracy and code compliance.

West Allis’ two plumbing inspectors hold valid credentials as licensed plumbers and commercial plumbing inspectors. DSPS auditors noted both “were well versed in all facets of the enforcement process” and “conduct themselves in a professional manner towards the plumbing contractors and general contractors, treating them with respect and professionalism.” In addition, the audit commended the department for “devoting adequate staff to accommodate (plumbing) inspection requests with a reasonable turnaround time” of only two business days. Plumbing plan reviews for commercial projects can be completed in an efficient two weeks.

“This audit validates our efforts to support the contractors and developers working to grow West Allis,” says Dan Devine, mayor of West Allis. “When we say ‘West Allis is open for business,’ it’s efficient processes and professional services such as those provided by our plumbing inspection team that help expedite the construction process and save stakeholders time and money.”
